Jergen Pret is a background character from The Severis Tales.
Biography
Jergen Pret was once the leader of a small group of gangers (bullies who shake victims out of food and money by intimidating or violent means, in particular, Rale County) during his youth growing up in the poverty-stricken county of Rale. He was also partially disgusted by bipedal dragons and half-dragons like, although he considered himself not "a racist."
Jergen's infamous leadership came to an end in 1096 during a pub fight between Maven Kalflar and Xiveer Severis. Maven shocked everyone in the room by "flattening him out like a pancake" and taking leave with Xiveer.
Between that time and story #5, which takes place in 1104, Jergen has finally escaped Rale and the life he led, and is now trying to rebuild himself into a respectable person. The shadow of his past still looms over him, however, as his job is threatened by an chance interaction with Maven and Xiveer in the year 1104.
Physical Description
Jergen is a muscular man with a beefy build. In Eggs, he has greyish hair that is matted and unmanaged.
Peronality and Habits
During his time in Rale, Jergen was mean, violent, bossy, and demanding. He always got what he wanted. By the time he encounters Maven and Xiveer again, he has become more docile and friendly, and has tried very hard to leave his past behind.
The incurred stress has led him to have lapses of alcoholism. For several years prior to 1104, he was clean and sober. Upon seeing Maven and Xiveer in the corner of his eye, he panicked, relapsed, and became a drunken mess. He broke down and cried after Maven forgave him, an expulsion of genuine emotion that told her he meant what he said.
Family and Relationships
In a major milestone that proves how far he has come from his early days, Jergen has since married and has three children, although the family is still poor. He has no immediate family to speak of.
