Bertram "Bertie" Chester is a character from The Severis Tales.

Biography

Bertie is a semi-successful writer in his homeland Britanna. At the age of sixteen, he was formerlly drafted into the Britannian army and sent to the eastern country of Jipara to aid in recovery of the nation from an enemy attack. Disgusted by the treatment of the Jiparans, not only by foreign citizens, but by those of his own country. At the next opportunity, he returned home and was granted voluntary discharge. Upon settling back into normal life, he found a love of journalism, writing, and the countryside. In his twenties, he met Sara Satubomishi, a Jiparan woman who has lived in Britanna since she was two years old. They married and had a daughter, Mia.

Bertie and his family, seeking to escape the increasingly polluted and claustrophobic Britannian cities and to see the world, they purchased and moved into 12 Pine Street, the former Tomlinson residence next to the Severis family. With the rest of their saved income fading away with the grand move to a new country, he resumed his writings and his journalism career at the local Barlett newspaper, the Barlett Chronicle.

Physical Description

Bertie likes his brown flatcap, brown blazer, brown trousers, brown vest, white or white and blue plaikd shirt with a black or brown tie. He is much a one-colour county outfit type of person. Once a thin and strong young man, Bertie has grown a bit podgy over the years, but he likes his outdoors. He is also proud of his straight moustache and smooth face.

Peronality and Habits

Bertie looks up on life, even on those days when the happiness of the day has been sucked into the atmosphere. He likes cricket and gets along well with his neighbour, Xiveer, who, like him, often gets into trouble or caught by his wife doing something that other grown men know better not to do. Bertie does like a bet, sometimes putting small amounts on odd bets.

Xiveer was initially pleased whe Bertie got his name right the first time, as his odd-pronouncing name (spoken as Zai-veer) often puts him at odds with everyone. Xiveer's smugness was short-lived after being told of three other people named Xiveer that Bertie knows back in his home country.
