Rude, arrogant, self-centred, and portly, Brackneed is the proprietor of Brackneed's, the middle-class and high-end general store in the west end of Barlett, and is often seen as the Severis' direct competitor. Like all Vendyors, he descends from a long line of business people and merchants, and is well-knowing in money, risks, and ventures. He tries to stay ahead of the Severises with legitimate means.

Although charming and welcoming to his customers, he has a developed reputation for being detested by others, especially in the working-class east end.

Brackneed is a rather portly man. He isn't a fast runner, but despite his large waist size, he is rather healthy. He is almost always seen with his black suit, black cape, black top hat, and black walking stick, although he does have other clothes in his wardrobe.

Brackneed's greed means his world extends to the doors of his shop, or his till. He is also offensive in his speech: often rude and prioritizes himself over others, he is often sharp-tongued and condescending. He in particular taunts the Severises by going into their shop when no one else is around. He likes to taunt Leena in particular.

However, he does have a firm stance against race and bigoted remarks, especially when it comes to bipedal dragons, of which is late wife was one. Despite his vulgarity and behaviour, he does have a strong ethical stance, and he knows when to draw the line and back away, or when to step in with something goes out of control.

Many of the Vendyor clan reside in Cambridge County, and are too far away to visit. He does have at least one brother, who sent a young Janessa Vendyor to Barlett several years ago to learn the ways of the retail world.

His constant battle between of what he and his brother wants Janesssa to be, and what Janessa wants herself, as put their relationship to the test, especially since the death of Vasira. During the Erandor period of 1103, Janessa finally snapped and told him off, embarrassing him in front of others. Fortunately, they were able to patch things up, and he finally agreed to give her the space she needed.

Despite his contention for the Severises, Xiveer could be seen as unacknowledged friends. Xiveer cannot put a finger why he cannot dislike him completely, but generally agrees he is a bit of an arse.

As well, during story #5, <em>Eggs,</em> Brackneed develops an unusual friendship with Maven Kalfkar. Mila speculated that it became so because many of Maven's qualities also belonged to Vasira, and the two were able to get along comfortably.
