Franklin was born in Peyton Sound. He is Xiveer Severis' childhood and best friend. After growing up and splitting apart, Franklin decided to join the Merchant's Guild to become a travel. Years later, he reunited with Xiveer. After quitting the Merchant Guild, he settled into a number of odd jobs, before settling on his true dream of being a crop farmer in Barlett.

During his travels, he encountered Leena Rosewater, and the two became friends. In 1082, he introduced her to Xiveer during a chance meeting between them.

Franklin's middle name is "Jok," which both Leena and Xiveer affectionately refer to him as. The origin of the name is a closely guarded secret between the three of them.

Before the Severises settled in Barlett, Franklin had purchased a sizable plot of land on Pine Street, and he began his operations as a farmer of maize and corn, Ferguson Farmstead, a profitable business venture that makes him an important figure in Barlett and the surrounding area. He usually runs the farm himself, which Leena thought would kill him sooner than later. Often, he uses volunteers to help harvest crops or maintain the fields.

Franklin is a well-built man who takes to the stereotypical flannel and flat cap outfits; but he will wear straw hats in the summer. He is very strong.

Franklin is calm in nearly every situation, no matter how stressful. He is quick to point out flaws in other people's plans, including Xiveer's. Like when they were children, he and Xiveer get up to porjects or other things that ultimately come at the disapproval and lecture from either Leena or Mila.

As such are good friends to the Severises, when Franklin goes back home during Erandor, he gives them full access to his rustic house, which they make use of every year.

Leena was born in the cold and northern town of North Fairbanks. With not much to do there, and with no future, she left to pursue some sort of adventurous lifestyle. At sixteen, she joined the Traveling Merchants Guild. She travelled across Caldore with others. The work was tough and often lonely, but she took pride in her work.

At some point, she met Franklin Ferguson. She was introduced to Xiveer at a chance meeting between the three of them somewhere in the prairie counties. In the year 1084, she married Xiveer. They left their days of the Guild behind, and settled into Barlett and began Severis General Goods.

Leena is tall-ish, with long hair, with almost a golden-colour hue to it. She has blue eyes and she is fair-skinned. She doesn't wear "girly" clothes as such—she is as much casual as everyone else.

Leena tends to be outgoing and welcoming to many people. She isn't shy or as awkward as her husband or elder son; and with her expertise with the Guild, she knows when to take risks. She is usually quite calm and understanding; but she can turn at the snap of a finger, and become quite aggressive and panicked, if provoked.

Leena is a motherly and close-family woman. She will defend her family and her picked-on son, Larry. This has created some issues of social tension between them and the town. When it came to giving birth to Michale—the younger of the two children—she vowed not to take the same soft stance.

Xiveer is her loving husband, and she loves her two sons, Larry and Michale, dearly. Her own family, the Rosewaters, are so far up north, it is too difficult for her to venture up and away from Barlett. Nonetheless, she did leave on good terms, and she has an ever-growing box full of letters between them and her.

Apart from Franklin Ferguson, Leena's best friend is Milakkalos "Mila" Daruginna, who moved into Barlett to start a pub in 1093. She has other friends scattered across town, many of them who run their own businesses or clubs.

She has an absolute hatred for her competitor, Brackneed Vendyor. He gets under her skin as often as possible and she is often driven to the point of insanity.

Enter The Severis Tales, a continuing short story series that focuses on the lives of the Severis family and the townsfolk around them. While presented in the genre of general fantasy, The Severis Tales is not your usual epic fantasy, with major battles between colossal armies and wars between gods. This world has possibly seen some of the heavy stuff, but those events are not in the scope of the series.

== Introduction ==
The aim of the series is to offer a glimpse into the lives of the ordinary people who live in their world, called Algeonon. The series is set primarily in the town of Barlett, Marius County, in the country of Caldore.

The idea came about during a brainstorming session, which turned into a philosophical discussion on the subject. Specifically, in those worlds where the main focus is on plot specifics, and the wide array of characters central to the plot. I genuinely thought that, at some point, there must be value in the stories of some of the side-characters, or reference to places that aren't mentioned again. From there, I thought of a world which could have "epic" stories around it, then subtracted it from the abstracted creation. From there, the world of Algenon was born, along with Barlett, the Severis family, and several of the other characters and places within town.

Although named The Severis Tales and focuses a lot on the Severis Family itself, some of the stories rotate around other primary or even secondary characters. However, many do involve the same group of people. Click on the links of the character names to learn more.

* [[Xiveer Severis|Xiveer (pronounced Zai-veer) Severis]] is the patriarch of the Severis family, wife to Leena and father to Larry and Michale. He has a bizarre sense of humour and uses unorthodox means to solve trivial problems, much to his wife's chagrin. He is also seen as an idiot by some, foolish, and aloof. He is sometimes awkward but out-going. He co-owns Barlett's east end shop Severis General Goods with his wife.

Normally, she is calm, smart, and determined; however, if she sees or hears of something that interests her, she will go out to great lengths to obtain it. On the heels of Larry's first two tumultuous weeks of college, Leena and Xiveer are once again visited by the uptight and selfish Brackneed Vendyor, who comes to taunt them at their store, Severis General Goods. However, Brackneed is the least of their worries, as, somehow, a rodent invades their shop. Desperate to rid of the creature, the duo devise a bizarre plan to kick the furry creature out once and for all.

Meanwhile, Reena MacTavish, their only employee, deals with another form of pressure, this time with one of their dedicated customers.

Graduating artist Leah Evans is selected to create a painting that would be showcased at the Barlett College Senior Student Art Exhibition. She finds the perfect person: Terrence Howard, in stride, coming from lecture classes. After some awkward conversation, Terrence agrees. All eyes are on them as the painting is unveiled and causes quite an unexpected ruckus and headache&em;not only for Leah and Terrence, but for college secretary Mr. Robern Arryls as well.

His experimentation with gears and fascination with trains led him to adapting Tyrel Narrows' wheelchair wheels to become a miniature version of a steam train that propelled Tyrel down Pine Street with frightening and disastrous consequences.

She is very efficent and, in part with her husband's views, not one for sitting around. Sometimes arguments erupt between them, usually over finances and over their disabled son.

Ardanna's personality clashes with Leena Severis, whom she looks down upon for doting over her son, Larry, without consequence or remors. She tries to avoid Leena in the street, often sending Toslin to their store instead.

Toslin works in the west end docks. The job, labour intensive and tiring, even sometimes hazardous, does have decent pay, but not enough to support his disabled son and their small house, one of the lower-income residents on Pine Street.

Toslin, who as a young adult has been involved with manual labour, approves of getting stuck in. He tends to take a sometimes unfair view of those like Larry Severis or Mira Hutter, both whom he belives slacks a lot, but approves of Elcra Winterbottom's way of life, as she is working hard for a better good.

Toslin is a well built man. Though is skin is lighter, it is often tanned from working in the sun. Despite the tough appearance, he is an advocate for safety in an area where deaths have occurred.

Toslin's income with his wife meets the amount to support their disabled sun, Tyrel, and maintain their small house. Sometimes, the financial strains tighten; they tend to argue about petty things or about the household finances.

Despite his tough physique and being a proponent for safety, Toslin is a worrier, often thinking if the house is secured when he leaves or if he turned the cooker off before bed. His pessimism often comes at odds with others; he often otherthinks things and stresses himself out on the most trivial of things.

Mira is the eldest of the two Hutter children. Described as a farmer's daughter, and despite having no experience in a farm field, Mira is a tall, stocky build possessing reasonable strength, traits she inherited from her mother, Gerta. Like her sibling, Karl, Mira has developed a strict and no-nonsense attitude toward life, developing a more mature or more serious demeanour for a woman her age.

The orderly and sorted attitude caused problems a few years ago when her then-boyfriend dumped her for being deemed "too controlling," a trait that has followed her around her entire life.

A love for plays and stories, Mira is studying theatre at Barlett College while volunteering at the east end's Barlett Playhouse.

She is often at odds with her mother over her strict house rules and ability to stick her nose into other people's affairs. When she is certain her mother or her socialite friends are not around, Mira lets the attitude drop.

Karl is the younger of the two Hutter children. Unlike his sister, Mira, Karl is softer, outgoing, open to ideas and understanding. Like his sister, he has matured very early on in life, in part due to his strict upbringing of his mother, Gerta.

Karl is described by his elder sister as a dweeb, someone fascinated by numbers associated with a dollar sign. He has taken an interest in business accounting, a course at ''Barlett College'' which he has partaken. His skill with numbers and people has also landed him a job at Barlett's branch of the ''National Bank of Caldore'' as a teller. Perhaps, one day, he will manage the numbers and ledgers of the distillery which he believes his father will take over.

Although athletic, Karl is rather lean and keeps his hair short. He is tall for a young person yet he is not one to move around much.
